Dixie is an eight-week-old, 4-pound puppy who was found in rural Mississippi in a box with her littermates. While her siblings quickly found homes, Dixie needed urgent medical care, and that is when we stepped in.
X-rays revealed two old fractures, one in her front left leg and one in her right rear leg. Because she is so young, both were repaired with external fixators so the hardware can be removed once healed and not interfere with her growth. Her front leg had to be carefully rebroken and reset to allow proper healing.
Despite everything she has endured, Dixie is incredibly sweet, trusting, and just wants to be held. She is currently recovering and will continue to receive follow-up care as she heals.
This brave little girl has a long, happy life ahead of her, and we are committed to giving her the best possible start. She will be available for adoption once she is medically cleared from her procedures.
