Yes, she’s a one-eyed Pekingese, and honestly, she’s working it better than most of us ever could.
A few things to know about Winkie:
- She only has one eye due to an old injury before rescue ( we have no idea how it happened)
- She was found as a stray and can dart out a door or gate lightning fast if given the chance ( that may explain why she was a stray but no microchip, no collar, and no one came looking for her as she sat in a shelter for a few weeks
- She is not much of a barker (huge bonus!)
- She would do best in a calm adult home or one with respectful older children. Again: this breed does not do well with too much chaos ( we can 100% relate!)
Pekingese are loving companions but can also be independent and stubborn little royals.
Because of her gorgeous coat, she will require regular grooming every 8–12 weeks along with daily brushing. And like many flat-faced breeds, it’s extremely important to keep her cool and monitor her in warm temperatures since brachycephalic dogs are prone to overheating and heatstroke. Due to her shorter snout, she’s not built for long periods of exercise and should always be monitored closely during activity, especially in the heat.
