Meet Zuko!
Zuko is one of three Heeler brothers who were found together on the backroads of a very rural area of Mississippi. Thankfully, a kind man found the boys, got them to safety, and we were made aware of their situation and able to bring them into rescue.
Zuko is around 6 months old, and while he is an incredibly sweet boy, so much of everyday life is completely new to him.
He is learning what it means to live inside a home, sleep on a soft dog bed, wear a collar, have a harness put on, eat his meals from a dog bowl, and experience all the sights, sounds and routines that most puppies grow up knowing.
Most importantly, he is learning about human love and affection — and this boy wants it so badly!
Zuko has been vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, started on flea and tick prevention, and tested negative for heartworms. He will be neutered soon. For now, he is decompressing in his loving foster home, taking everything in and learning a little more about his new world every day.
Because Zuko is still building his confidence and learning how to be a dog in a home, his best fit will be a family with a fenced yard and absolutely an established dog in the home. A canine buddy will help give him confidence, show him the ropes, and help him continue learning all those things he missed during his first months of life.
For now, Zuko doesn't have to worry about surviving on the backroads of Mississippi anymore.
He is safe. His belly is full. He has a soft place to sleep. And for perhaps the first time in his young life, he knows what it feels like to be loved.
Soon, this sweet boy will be ready for the next chapter — finding a forever family of his very own!
Zuko is in Memphis, Tennessee.
