Meet Jerilyn!
This sweet senior long-haired Chihuahua girl was found as a stray and taken to a very high-kill shelter. She waited and waited for her family, but sadly, no one came.
So we took her in with open arms!
Jerilyn is estimated to be about 10 years old and sadly is blind with cataracts. However, she gets around just fine once she knows her way! She is dainty, weighing just 7.5 pounds! She is fully vaccinated, microchipped, tested negative for heartworms, and, based on a vet exam, looks to have been spayed.
She was in dire need of a dental, which she did receive and resulted in numerous extractions so soft/canned food is her friend!
She recently met with an optometrist at MVS and we learned she is a great candidate for cataract surgery. Once the surgery is complete, she will have several weeks of recovery in her foster home and then will be looking for her forever home! Even if surgery is successful (and we are crossing our paws that it is!), she will always have ongoing medical care to help support her. This will include medication and likely eye drops.
For those reasons, she will not be able to be adopted to a home with small children (too many fast, quick actions, loud noises, etc.). But sweet Jerilyn does very well with dogs of all sizes -- her best friend in her foster home is a beautiful bully!
Jerilyn is currently recovering in one of our Memphis area foster homes. getting spoiled (as she should be) and loving life OUT of the shelter and IN a warm foster home. Though Jerilyn is not currently ready for adoption, we encourage any interested potential adopters to submit their application. We would love to have her forever home lined up the minute she is medically cleared for adoption!
And we are currently fundraising to cover the cost of Jerilyn's cataract surgery and related care. We need to raise $6,000 to fully cover the cost of her care. She more than deserves a second chance at life and with your help, we can give it to her!
