Meet Birdie!
This sweet, six-month-old girl, weighing just 14 pounds, was discovered in Mississippi by a kind passerby after she had likely been hit by a car at least three weeks ago.
Birdie’s injuries are heartbreaking: bilateral femur fractures and bilateral tibia/fibula fractures. The X-rays are shocking even to us. And the fact that she’s been trying to survive on her own for weeks in severe pain with these injuries is absolutely gut-wrenching.
This sweet girl was also shot, which we learned when we saw pellets in her body from her x-rays.
But we’re here now. Birdie doesn’t have to crawl anymore. And she is no longer in pain. She’s safe, and as you know by now, we will do everything in our power to give her the care she desperately needs.
Because her fractures are several weeks old, she will unfortunately need her bones rebroken in order for them to heal properly.
Her first surgery occurred on 01/29/2025 and her second (and final!) surgery occurred on 02/03. The estimated cost for her care was about $17,500.
Birdie is now fully healed and is ready for adoption! She is great with other dogs and kids and loves everyone she meets! We are not sure how she is with cats. She needs a home with a securely fenced-in yard to run and play in.
Birdie Girl is currently hanging out in one of our Memphis area foster homes.
