I'm not quite ready to go to my new home.

Hi! My Name Is Brixie

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

Brixie is an 8-month-old, 24-pound, adorable, sweet-as-can-be little bully girl.

In late March 2025, a horrific video of a man brutally beating his dog in a Memphis parking lot went viral. Thanks to social media, police identified the man. A family member then surrendered the dog, "Brixleigh," now Brixie, to a local Memphis precinct, and a warrant was issued for his arrest for aggravated animal cruelty. As of 04/02, he is still at large.

On 04/01, Brixie was released into our custody and care.

She was immediately taken to Bluff City Veterinary Specialists for X-rays, bloodwork, and a physical exam. X-rays showed that both of her femoral heads were broken: the left is an old fracture from previous trauma and the right is a new fracture, likely from the beating she sustained that was captured in the viral video. She also had chicken bones in her stomach, which will be closely monitored to ensure they pass safely.

X-rays established a better age frame, showing her growth plates are not yet closed, determining she was only about 8 months old at the time of examination.

Her bloodwork also showed that she was positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasma (tick-borne diseases). Thankfully, she is heartworm negative.

She will need double FHO surgery and likely physical therapy once the procedures are complete. The initial estimated cost of her medical care is $7,800.

She has been through unthinkable cruelty, yet she is still full of love. Despite everything, her tail never stopped wagging and she never stopped giving kisses. She radiates pure love.

Brixie didn’t deserve what happened to her. No creature deserves to be abused.

We aren’t going to post the video of her abuse here. If you want to see the recording, you can visit her Cuddly fundraising page, which contains a copy of a publicly available screen recording from social media. Her Cuddly page also includes a wishlist for those who want to send supplies for our team to use during her recovery.

When we met her, we made her the same promise we make all of our dogs: to help them heal and find them the best forever home possible.

Please consider donating towards her care. With your help, we can help her heal and when she is ready, give her the long overdue happy tail she deserves.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

***At this time, Brixie is NOT available for adoption or pre-adoption. Do not contact the rescue to ask about adopting her. Adoption applications sent for Brixie will automatically be denied.***
