Meet Dapper Dutch!
This absolutely handsome hunk of a pup is in search of his forever home. He was born approx. December 27. 2024 so he is very much a pup. As of June 5th he already weighs 47 pounds , so he will be a BIG boy!
He looks to be mostly, if not all, Anatolian Shepherd. He is current on vaccines, microchipped, current on heartworm & flea prevention, and set to be neutered.
He is great with other dogs, good with children, and simply a gentle giant( to be) .
Anatolian Shepherds are known for their strong protective instincts. They can be wary of strangers, which makes them excellent guard dogs but requires socialization to be comfortable in a home environment, so starting socialization at a young age is very important. Dutch is socialized now and will need to have that continued. They can be aggressive towards dogs and people they do not know due to their protective instincts when they have not been adequately socialized from a young age. This is a large and powerful breed, so they require an owner who can manage them on leash and keep them safely contained on their property. It cannot be stressed enough: early socialization with people, animals, and children is crucial to prevent potential aggression due to their protective nature. This breed is best suited for homes with older children who understand how to interact with large dogs and in families with a strong, consistent leader, 100% NOT the dog for a first time pet owner or a person that is not a strong pack leader.
The pros of this breed: loyal ( will protect you with his life. They form strong bonds with their families and are devoted companion) , calm ( They are generally calm and quiet indoors) , limited exercise, low grooming needs, smart ( fast learner) , good with older children (who understand how to interact with dogs respectfully. Because the breed is so big and formidable, they are not suited for homes with small children) .
