Meet little Gordon!
This adorable Poodle mix boy was born around February 14, 2026—a true little Valentine and an absolute lovebug!
Gordon found himself at a shelter with a pretty serious medical problem: both of his back knees have luxating patellas. Because of the condition of his legs, he was reportedly considered not to be a surgical candidate and was scheduled for euthanasia.
Thankfully, Gordon got another chance.
Once we learned about him, we were able to get him out of the shelter and have him evaluated by our wonderful orthopedic veterinary team. And guess what? Gordon IS a surgical candidate! His legs can be repaired, and this little guy has a chance to eventually run, romp, and play like a puppy should.
It won't be a quick process, though.
Gordon will have surgery on one leg first. After several weeks of healing, his second leg will be repaired. There will be multiple sets of X-rays along the way to make sure everything is healing properly, and once both surgeries are behind him, he may also need physical therapy to help strengthen his legs.
All together, Gordon is looking at at least 15 weeks of kennel confinement and recovery.
Nobody wants to see a puppy spend that much time resting in a kennel, but sometimes the hardest part of healing is keeping them quiet! Our goal isn't just to get Gordon through surgery—it's to give him the best possible outcome so that someday he CAN run, play, chase toys, and enjoy being the happy little dog he was meant to be.
And don't worry—his medical foster family knows exactly what they're doing! They are certainly no strangers to orthopedic and medical cases, and Gordon is in wonderful hands for the long road ahead.
For now, Gordon will remain in our Recovery Room while we concentrate on getting those little legs fixed and healed. Once his veterinary team gives him the all-clear, he'll graduate from the Recovery Room and move over to our Available Dogs list to begin looking for his forever family.
He has quite a journey ahead of him, but the most important thing is that he now HAS that journey.
