Meet Janine (and Learn a Little About Bulldog Care)
Janine is our first rescue of 2026, and since it’s January and she’s French, the name was a perfect fit! This petite girl weighs just 19 pounds and appears to have had multiple litters in her past. She is now safe in rescue and beginning the medical journey she’s long needed.
Like many French Bulldogs, Janine struggles to breathe due to brachycephalic airway syndrome, a condition common in flat-faced breeds. She will be undergoing soft palate and nares (nostril) surgery, which will significantly improve her ability to breathe, exercise, regulate body temperature, and simply enjoy life. These procedures are often truly life-changing for dogs like Janine.
Janine is now:
* Fully vaccinated
* Microchipped
* Heartworm negative
* Started on heartworm & flea prevention
She is also scheduled for her spay, which will help protect her long-term health.
Why We Have Breed-Specific Adoption Requirements
We require adopters to currently own or have previously owned a French or English Bulldog (verifiable through veterinary records) to be considered for adoption approval. While this may seem strict, it’s based on experience and compassion. Bulldogs are not low-maintenance dogs. They are prone to ongoing eye, skin, ear, and allergy issues, and they require vigilant, proactive care.
We often receive bulldogs in rescue not because they are healthy, but because their previous owners were unable or unwilling to meet these medical and financial needs. Our responsibility is not just to rehabilitate them, but to ensure they never end up neglected again.
Janine will receive all necessary medical care while in rescue. Once she has fully recovered from her surgeries, she will be ready for a forever home that understands and is prepared for the lifelong care this breed requires.
Janine is in Memphis
